Carp Fishing Tech FAQs

What are the essential tech items I should have in my kit?

Whilst you don't necessarily need tech items in your armoury, barring alarms, there are some items which make life considerably more comfortable on the bank such as a head torch, bivvy lights and of course, a power bank, to keep your electrical items charged.

What are the benefits of using a fish finder?

The term fish finder is probably not the best way to describe these, and an echo sounder would be more appropriate. Whilst they can be used to identify fish, they will not be 100% accurately certain that it is fish or what species of fish it is. This is true whether you are using a castable sonar or one fitted to a boat/baitboat. They are far more suited to reading depths and identifying features in the typography of the lake bed.

What are the main differences between the more expensive fish finders and the cheaper options?

More expensive sonars will offer more detail by being able to differentiate the densities of substrates more accurately so you can see a more visible difference in the make-up of the lake bed, between hard and soft areas as well as weed, or matter floating in mid water.

What are the benefits of using a power pack? How much power can they provide?

Power packs come in a range of sizes and options, and as a result, the power they can provide can vary from being able to charge your phone for a weekend, to keeping your phone, lighting equipment, and even camera and laptop running for several days even a week!

What are the main differences between the more expensive power packs and the cheaper options?

The more expensive you go, the more power you will have as often they will be large capacity.

How do fishing drones differ from standard drones?

Fishing drones will differ from standard drones, in that they will have the option to drop a small payload of bait, or sometimes even a baited rig. They are quite new to the market, however, so expect this to be an area that advances quite quickly.
