Carp Fishing Terminal Tackle FAQs
What is terminal tackle?
Terminal tackle is a term used to describe everything from your line, down to your hooklinks, hooks, leads and weights. This can sometimes also be referred to as end tackle for the rig components.
What do I need to have in my terminal tackle kit?
The basics are mainline, lead arrangements eg lead clip, tail rubber, tubing, and components to make your rigs such as a coated braid, hooks, swivels, and rig putty, boilie stops.
Should I use a Ronnie rig or a multi rig?
This is down to personal preference and also what you are fishing over. A Ronnie works best on a helicopter set-up, whereas a multi rig can be fished with a range of baits, on a lead clip or helicopter set-up.
Should I use barbless or barbed hooks?
This will be down to fishery rules more often than personal choice.
What are the benefits of using PVA bags?
PVA bags give you the ability to have one small parcel of food directly around your hook bait, and always ensure you are well presented, except when casting into thick weed. You can have your hook bait coiled up inside the bag, ready for a carp to suck the whole lot in, in one big go.
When would I need to use a lead?
You would generally always require a lead to provide you the weight to cast out, with the exception of when free lining at close range, or surface or float fishing.
