Carp Fishing Prodding Sticks FAQs
What are prodding sticks used for?
Prodding sticks are used for feeling the lake bed to identify hard areas when out in a boat.
How deep can prodding sticks reach?
This is dependent on the model of the prodding stick chosen. Some are set to 2-4m whereas others can go considerably deeper as they offer additional sections.
Do I just need one prodding stick or multiple?
Most anglers will use just the one, with additional sections, but carry a marker pole, or H blocks to mark identified areas once found.
Can prodding sticks be dismantled for transporting?
Yes, they can.
Should I choose stainless steel or carbon fibre prodding sticks?
Steel is stronger but also much heavier, so whilst it is better to push into the substrate if you should drop it it will sink and is heavier to transport. Carbon fibre is lighter but also transmits more vibration so you get a better feel of the bottom.
What are the main differences between the cheaper prodding sticks and the more expensive models?
More expensive models are often made from carbon fibre and offer the option of additional sections so you can reach deeper spots.
