Ready Tied Carp Rigs: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

Ready Tied Carp Rigs: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

Are ready tied carp rigs really any good? With more and more ready tied rigs hitting the shelves of tackle shops up and down the country we asked our resident blogger to investigate. In part one we discuss ready tied rigs and in part two we put them to the test on the bank and try to catch a carp!

Ready Tied Rigs

There are literally hundreds of ready tied rigs available out there, but are they any good?

Well yes I think they are. There are, however, SOME negative points to consider as well so let’s look at those first.

Rig Length – all of the ready tied rigs come in a certain length so when you buy one you have to fish it at that length. Obviously you can trim them shorter, but you certainly can’t make them longer!

Cost – a Korda rig costs up to £2.50, maybe a penny cheaper. If you are fishing for 48hrs let’s say, then you could well need 10 rigs if you are fishing with three rods, maybe even more if you catch a net full! You could well end up paying £30 for rigs if you have a red letter day.

Limitations – rig length is not the only limitation when it comes to ready tied rigs – other things like length of the hair or the materials they are made from, there are very few options aside from hook size and breaking strain in each rig.

Stigma – Today, I posted a poll on my Instagram account @waynetotalbox and anyone following my page if they would use ready tied rigs or not. 148 people responded and 89% said NO they would not use ready made rigs.

Well I disagree.

I have for some time used ready tied/pre tied chod rigs and I have to say, not only are they tied as good if not better than I can ever tie them, but I have 100% confidence in them. This confidence has come from some fantastic results on stiff hinge rigs made from ready tied chod rigs. Yes ready tied rigs are predominantly aimed at beginners but I know a lot of very good anglers that use them too.

I haven’t yet tried any of the other ready tied rigs but to be honest I am looking forward to giving the Korda Solidz Ready Tied Solid PVA Bag Rigs as they are exactly how I would tie my own anyway! You’ll see the results of the test in part two!

So, what are the best ready tied rigs? Well, any that we stock on the website are more than good enough but some of the most popular ones are listed below;

Korda Spinner Rig

Most anglers will have heard of the spinner rig as it has been featured prominently on many Korda videos and is a favourite of a lot of their sponsored anglers, but if you don’t have the time or confidence to tie your own, then this ready-tied version is the perfect solution.

It is constructed in exactly the same way as any of our top anglers would do it, and features a 5.5 inch Boom hook link with either a Krank or Kurv Shank hook attached via one of our Spinner Swivels which has been crimped on to provide a very strong connection.
At the other end is a crimped loop which can be attached to any of our quick-change style systems.
The rig can be used multiple times simply by changing the hook, which is very easy to do.
There is a choice of size 4 or 6 hooks, in barbed or barbless, and each packet contains one rig.

“This is the most efficient carp rig I have ever used! I cast this out with extreme confidence as it does everything you wish a rig to do; it has superb hooking potential, and you can even change the hook quickly without having to tie a new rig.” TOM DOVE

Fishing for me has long been more than a hobby, but more of an obsession. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by water, and all that which lives below the surface, and subsequently, as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, my angling journey started.
