Fortis continue their Elements range with the addition of some new footwear, our resident blogger gives them the once over......
I am loving Fortis right now, they are keeping me warm and comfortable on the bank and when walking the dog! When I heard about the Elements boots I was keen to find out more.

Surely they are just a pair of boots though right? Well yes they are a pair of boots but the quality, the comfort and the warmth you just don't get with cheaper options, not in my experience anyway. Let's hear what Fortis have to say about them.......
'Fortis have earned a reputation for bringing unrivalled warmth to anglers for quite a few years now. The best selling Fortis SJ9 jackets, Salopettes and Fortis Elements range of clothing has made winter fishing a joy when the temperatures drop but there was one part of the jigsaw missing... It's hard to keep feet warm without the appropriate footwear. That's why they've developed the Elements Boot.
A highly comfortable, completely waterproof insulated boot which offers unrivalled warmth and protection in the colder months. This boot will keep your feet warm down to -60’F (-51’C) thanks to the 5 layer removable liner. The boot is constructed with premium high grade rubber that seals out moisture and adds flexibility for added comfort. The outsole features an aggressive tread that will keep you moving over any terrain. The liner is developed to incorporate 5 layers which insulates, evacuates moisture and combats the cold.'

I must be honest, I never thought I would weigh out £100 plus for a pair of fishing boots but I then remembered a conversation with my old mate Ian 'Chilly" Chilcott a few years ago. We were sat around the pond drinking tea, putting the world to rights as you do. The conversation invariably turned to the army and as an ex para Chilly certainly has a tale or two to tell! The conversation somehow ended up on feet and he told me about an old army saying he learnt when was a young private -
'First your rifle, then your feet' referring to the fact that as an infantry soldier you would not be much cop without your rifle or your ability to move, so when you stop moving for any length of time you first clean and prepare your rifle, then you sort your feet out, dry socks and a dose of talcum powder is apparently the same as getting into a clean bed with fresh sheets! I looked down and Chilly was wearing a very unassuming pair of army boots and when I questioned him why, he just said 'old habits die hard mate, they are warm and dry, what more do I need?'

I have had a lot of footwear for fishing over the years, I have never really settled on one particular style or brand but I can see me sticking with these for a long time. Feet are a bit weird, different shapes, sizes and profiles, widths, arches and god knows what else! Finding the right pair is a pain in the backside but I have finally found a pair that fit my feet perfectly, keep my feet warm and dry and are super comfortable. I can't really ask for any more than that and I strongly recommend them to anyone else too.
