Best Trakker Bivvies: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

Best Trakker Bivvies: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

Our range of Trakker bivvies is, without doubt, one of the most sought-after that money can buy, we asked our resident blogger to take a closer look and clarify a few things along the way! Yes I agree, Trakker Tempest bivvies and brollies are great. I own one of the Tempest Brollies and I have got all the bells and whistles that go with it, the skull cap, skull cap wrap; you name it, I have got it so I feel well qualified to talk about them.

Trakker Tempest Brolly 100/100T

Trakker Tempest Brolly 100/100T

So, this is the smallest and most lightweight offering, for those who remember when a brolly actually looked like a brolly, this would be the equivalent of 60" brolly and sides, except the Tempest 100 is better. Way better! There is no aquatexx material, in its place is 10000 hydrostatic head nylon that does the job just fine. Like its predecessor (the V2 Brolly) the 100 Brolly itself is an open front with a multitude of optional extras available including Skull Caps, Wraps and Groundsheets. It also has a choice of two infill panels, a solid waterproof panel and an insect panel; that can be zipped into the front of the brolly. All this is coupled with the quick, ease-of-use design.

The 100 Brolly is perfect for those anglers who only fish overnighters but who may want to add an accessory or two to give them a little more comfort. There is also a Trakker Tempest 100T which stands for Tall. So if you are over 6ft tall, you might consider this if you don't like straining sideways to look out from your bivvy. All in all, they are a great shelter, they go up in seconds and with the added ability to zip a front in or a mozi mesh panel, you are well protected. This a solid start to our list of the best Trakker Bivvies. Sorry, brollies!

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Super fast erection time
  • Rear vents
  • Taller model available in the 100T

CONS

  • Nylon material, not as waterproof as the aquatexx model
  • Door not included

Trakker - Tempest Advanced 100 Bivvy Aquatexx EV 1.0

Trakker - Tempest Advanced 100 Bivvy Aquatexx EV 1.0

The Advanced 100 Bivvy System is the first full bivvy in the range, the 100 meaning one man, one bed. It is a full bivvy system so it comes with the full front panel and groundsheet. A great bivvy on its own but WAIT! There are options to make it even better, you can buy a full zip-in capsule that is a self-contained living area, with no chance of water or creepy crawlies getting in, you can get the Skull Cap Wrap which creates a second skin and a bit of a peak (great bit of kit to be fair) plus you can still get the original Skull Cap that gives the bivvy a little hat and stops the condensation from building up, great for the summer as it helps block some of the heat out too.

There are vents all around the bivvy for airflow, rod straps and of course the genius Tempest design that goes up in no time at all. Word of warning, with the inner capsule it does get a little cosy inside. You might want to look at the next one on my list if you like a bit more space.

PROS

  • Aquatexx Material
  • Super fast erection time
  • All round vents for superior airflow

CONS

  • Higher price point
  • Tight for space with the inner capsule fitted

Trakker Tempest Advanced 150 Bivvy System

Trakker Tempest Advanced 150 Bivvy System

This is the one that is right at the top of my shopping list, the sharp-eyed amongst you will have realised that 150 means 1.5 men or one and a half men, one and a half beds. If anyone has half a bed, let me know. All joking aside if you like a bit more room then this is the one for you, all the same features as the 100 version, only bigger. The best thing is that the bivvy still goes up in no time at all, so the only real downside is the extra weight and that's hardly noticeable.

You can still get all the add-ons, the inner capsule, and the full mozi front which comes with the automatic magnetic closure, great for bursting out the bivvy for a run in the middle of the night and not having your bivvy full of ravenous mozzies when you return. Not forgetting of course the skull cap and the skull cap wrap as well, try saying that after 10 pints. A great addition to our list of the best trakker bivvies.

PROS

  • Aquatexx Material
  • Super fast erection time
  • All round vents for superior airflow

CONS

  • Higher price point

Trakker Tempest 200 Bivvy

Trakker Tempest 200 Bivvy

Now then, we are into the realms of small detached property now so if there is likely to be a company in your bivvy anytime soon then read on. The 200 is a beast and yes the 200 means two people, and two-bed. Perfect for taking the Mrs or the kids with you. There are no frills on the Tempest 200, it's made from the 10000 hydrostatic head nylon and not the aquatexx, but this is reflected in the price too. You can get the inner capsule and the skull cap as extras.

I must say that if I were heading to France and wanted out and out luxury I would get one of these with the inner capsule and skull cap! Yes they are big but they are not meant for tight swims down your syndicate, they are for big-day ticket swims or heading abroad. In Trakkers own words - 'The biggest Tempest to date! The Tempest 200 offers a two-bed capacity with optimum storage space for long-session specialists, where additional space for comfort is required, and due to the patented quick-erect design that the entire Tempest range follows, is ideal for any length of session. Not only is the Tempest spacious enough for two beds, but it also has a height of 170cm for the taller anglers, and can be fitted with an inner capsule to maximize comfort year-round.'

Trakker Tempest Brolly Advanced 100 / 100T Aquatexx EV 1.0

Trakker Tempest Brolly Advanced 100 / 100T Aquatexx EV 1.0

The newest to the range is the expansion of the Tempest Brolly models, bringing you the Tempest Brolly Advanced 100 EV 1.0 and the Tempest Brolly Advanced 100T EV 1.0 Both offer all the features of their larger breather, that you get with the bivvies, only slightly smaller floor space, without the option of the inner capuse. The rest of the award-winning features remain, fundamentally the super quick erection time, and the superb Aquatexx material, along with the four vents enabling superior airflow throughout to keep you cool in the warmer months.

Still supplied with groundsheet and full infill, this slightly reduces the shelter weight and means if the swims are a little more cramped for space, you can still take your tempest wherever you go whilst also keeping the price down! You still have the option of the magnetic mozzie infill panel, skull caps and skull cap wrap. So whilst it may say brolly, a compact bivvy is probably more accurate.

PROS

  • Aquatexx Material
  • Super fast erection time
  • All round vents for superior airflow
  • Compact size

CONS

  • The higher price point for a brolly
  • No inner capsule option

Fishing for me has long been more than a hobby, but more of an obsession. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by water, and all that which lives below the surface, and subsequently, as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, my angling journey started.
