Best Digital Fishing Scales: A Fishing Scales Review

best fishing scales

The whole world is going digital, but digital fishing scales are certainly nothing new. Here is our take on the best digital fishing scales on offer.

Korda Digital Scales 132lb/60kg

Korda are the latest to join the digital scales market, of those mentioned on the list, but certainly have come in with one of the contenders for best in class! (It is Korda after all). Designed in conjunction with Reuben Heaton, you know the pedigree of scale design has been carried across, and it shows many of the features these scales offer. They are very easy and simple to use, made easier with the very ample tare facility, which allows for most weigh slings to zero, and saves the weight once recorded into the internal memory. In addition to being waterproof and shockproof, being able to handle the rigors of bankside life, and long battery life to power the bright, clean LCD display means that these scales will be weighing in your monster carp for some time to come!

Korda Digital Scales 132lb/60kg

PROS

  • Strong Robust Design
  • Easy to Use, and bright clear display
  • Reliable
  • Bright Display
  • High weight range

CONS

  • Highier cost
  • Limited to 132lb so not suited to European catfish anglers

Fox Digital Scales 60kg

The fox digital scales have been around for some time but have undergone a cosmetic upgrade and an increased capacity. The Fox Digital scales can now weigh up to 60kg or 132 lbs in old money. For simplicity they are incredibly easy to operate, just turn them on and zero the weigh sling by pressing a button, lift your catch and the displayed weight is your reward! All of the components are independently sealed preventing water ingress and there is a handy protective cover also. You can easily switch between weighing in pounds or kilos and there is a handy backlight for weighing fish in the hours of darkness. The battery life on these scales is insane, I cannot remember the last time I changed mine, but I do always have a spare just in case! The large underslung hook makes adding the weigh sling with wet and cold hands a doddle and the metal top loop is perfect for attaching to a weighing tripod or crook. Said to be more accurate than dial scales, but the jury is still out on that one, maybe we should do a video to find out!

  • Very reliable
  • Compact size and design

Reuben Heaton 7000 Series Digital Scales

Reuben Heaton has been a name synonymous with quality weighing scales for many years, and their first steps into the digital world aren’t bad either. First up is the variety of capacities on offer, you can choose between 33lb 66lb, or 135lb maximum weight. If you fish in the UK only then 66lb should see you right but if you like to fish for catfish or venture overseas then you might want to go for the 135lb option. In their own words, ‘A technologically advanced digital scale designed to meet the tough requirements of the angling environment. Large high visibility LCD screen and active backlight system ensure clear readings in all conditions. Second generation software gives precise readings and the memory facility allows storage of weights’. I do like the idea of being able to store weights on the scales, something that would be particularly useful if abroad for a week, where it is easy to lose track of what you have caught. There is a protective pouch available but it will cost extra. All in all a perfect addition to our list of the best digital fishing scales.

Reuben Heaton 9000 Series Digital Scales

Sticking with the Reuben Heaton brand, we come to the 9000 series. Weighing up to 55lbs, the 9000 series is perfect for the UK angler. The 9000 has a more compact tubular design but still with an easy-to-read display and most of the features that the 7000 offers. They come with overload protection just in case you catch the fish of a lifetime and the stainless steel weigh loops are certainly built to last. This time the protective pouch is included which will save a few pennies but the biggest feature of the 7000 series has to be the size and weight, perfect for stashing in a rucksack pocket making them the perfect choice for the river angler in search of a giant chub and barbel as well as the more mobile carp angler. Both simple to use and at a great price, what is there not to like? A worthy addition to our list of the best digital fishing scales.

Wychwood T Bar Digital Scales Range

Not the first name that comes to mind when you think of digital scales but the T Bar range has certainly been a best seller. Available in a few different options, although the design and features are much of a muchness. The pick of the bunch is the Dual Screen version which as it says, comes with two screens, 1 on each side so whoever is lifting the sling can see the weight, as can all the bystanders and your fishing buddies! Weighing in with a maximum capacity of 120lb the T Bar Dual Screen should cover most situations and the T design makes for easy lifting. There is a snap-lock clip for attaching the weigh sling and a handy metal loop on top for use with a weighing tripod or crook. All in all a pretty good effort from Wychwood who have given the T Bar Range some serious thought. A good choice for our list of the best digital fishing scales.

Fishing for me has long been more than a hobby, but more of an obsession. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by water, and all that which lives below the surface, and subsequently, as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, my angling journey started.
