BEST FISHING GIFT IDEAS FOR BEGINNERS

We have some fantastic gift ideas for beginners or for those who may be returning to the sport after a few years away, after all, what angler doesn't like a bit of shiny new fishing tackle!

Buying a gift for the angler in your life can seem like a daunting prospect, but we have taken away all the pain and worry with our gift buyer's guide! Some questions to ask before you start shopping include:

What type of fishing do they enjoy? Do they mainly fish in the sea, lakes, or rivers? Do they enjoy fishing overnight and setting up camp? What sort of fish do they like to catch, carp, pike, trout etc.

Any hints or clues you can pick up will help you to make a better informed choice, after all, there is no point buying a sleeping bag for an angler who only fishes a few hours at a time down their local pond. Do your research where possible.

Don't be afraid to ask if they have thought about any new fishing tackle purchases recently. The vast majority of anglers have a mental wish list that they store away in their heads, full of new bits and pieces that they would like. Ask them to write down a few ideas for you.

Lastly, if all else fails, there is always the good old gift voucher. It may seem like a lazy option, but many of the anglers we meet are only too pleased to receive gift cards from their favourite fishing retailer, Total Fishing Tackle! It gives them the freedom to purchase exactly what they want or bank it for another time when the need for some fishing tackle arises.

Here at Total Fishing Tackle, we have a great selection of angling gift ideas, covering all different types of angling, so grab a cuppa and check out our expert's choices below!

OUR TOP CHOICE!

It is difficult to choose the best fishing gifts for beginners, but it is hard to look past some quality clothing that will keep you warm and dry. The British weather does have a habit of not reading the weather forecast and can change in the blink of an eye, no fishing trip should be cut short due to inadequate clothing, so being prepared is essential.

No matter what time of the year, it is important to be warm and dry when fishing. A good quality set of waterproofs is an essential item for any angler. They pack down small enough to stash in a rucksack or bag, and most garments have excellent wind-beating properties as well as being able to keep you dry.

A lot of anglers misjudge the weather and end up cold and fed up. As we know, the majority of the heat we use is through our heads and extremities, so a good woolly hat and a thick pair of warm socks are essential items. Some anglers do carry gloves, but they can also get in the way of tying hooks and other tasks.

Lastly, a good pair of boots or trainers will drastically improve your odds of keeping your feet warm and dry. Even in the summer, trudging across fields in the wet grass can really put a dampener on your session before it has started. If an angler has to walk any distance, then a good pair of boots with ankle support will really help.

If we really had to nail down one item for the angler in your life, we would suggest a good warm jacket! In particular, one of our favourites, the Navitas Eurus Puffer Jacket is a superb choice and worn by a lot of the anglers who work here at Total Fishing Tackle. Check out the good bits below!

Fishing for me has long been more than a hobby, but more of an obsession. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by water, and all that which lives below the surface, and subsequently, as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, my angling journey started.
