The United States government recognised Coleman's capabilities based on their deployment during the First World War. Consequently, when they required a portable stove that could accommodate diverse fuels and function under any condition, in a form smaller than a quart bottle of milk, Coleman delivered. The portable stove emerged as the second most crucial non-military equipment during the war, second only to the Jeep.

This surge in popularity translated into a significant upsurge in the use of portable stoves for camping. This arena became the catalyst for the brand's substantial growth. Over time, the camping segment flourished, encompassing innovative plastic bubble cool boxes, sleeping bags, tents, and an extensive array of products. By 1962, the company offered a comprehensive line of camping gear appealing to the burgeoning middle class.
