ARE BAIT BOATS CHEATING?

Well, the simple answer is no. But I will elaborate.

Firstly let me explain that as with a lot of angling situations, if used incorrectly or without care, bait boats can be a nusiance. BUT the same can be said for loud music, constant spodding or anglers who have a had a few too much happy juice on the bank. If used sensibly and considerately, bait boats are a fantastic tool that will undoutedbly catch you more carp.

Some may say they are cheating, 'technology has no place in carp fishing' - and yes, these are the same anglers who arrived at the lake in a top of the range VW van, whilst using the sat nav on their £1000 iPhone.

Bait boats are a tool. A way to quickly and efficiently deliver a baited rig and free offerings into the lake. Quietly and stealthily. Plus, if used correctly, without any disturbance to fellow anglers. Let me explain more...

Angler A turns up, breaks out the marker rod and sets about plumbing his swim. 20 or 30 casts and two hours later and three spots have been found. Out comes the spod rod and 20 spombs of bait ae delivered, some of which actually lands on the spots! Three rods go out and Angler A is fishing. Except the fish are now at the other end of the lake and the anglers next door are less than happy!

Angler B rocks up at the other end of the lake, gets the bait boat and echo sounder kit out. Runs the boat silently out to a suspected area where fish are showing, finds three spots in about 10 mins and whilst out there, deposits a bit of bait directly over the spots. Three rods follow and the spots are marked in the GPS system for later when re doing the rods. The anglers next door and in their bivvies watching the football and don't even realise that someone has set up next door.

I know which angler I would rather have next to me! There are however some pros and cons to using a bait boat, so lastly, let's dive into those...

Advantages of Bait Boats

• Bait boats are banned on a lot of venues
