The method feeder is a standard weapon in a match anglers armoury, yet most carp anglers have yet to realise its full potential. Our resident angling expert Wayne Box takes a look at the best rigs to use when method feeder fishing and why it is important to get the set-up right!
METHOD FEEDERS
Used by match anglers for over 30 years now, the Method Feeder is essentially an open-sided swim feeder and anglers mould groundbait or soft pellets around it that break down when cast into the swim. The type of rig is crucial to the success of the Method Feeder, they need to be short so that the hook bait remains in close proximity to all that loose feed, and they need to be supple so that the rig doesn't spring away from the feeder, remember we want that hook bait to be in amongst all that lovely free food!
You can tie your own method feeder rigs quite easily, but if you prefer to use pre-tied rigs, and there is nothing wrong with that, these are the ones to look out for.
PRODUCT INFORMATION

Can be attached to Edges ready-tied leaders. Available in 20lb (9.1kg) with size 6 and 8 hooks, 25lb (11.3kg) for size 4.
ESP Method Feeder Rigs - The overall length of 4” (10cm) is just right for tucking the hook bait back inside the method mix moulded onto the feeder. The super strong, soft Camo Sink Link braid is really inconspicuous and does not loop up or be prone to dislodge the hook bait from the feeder as the bait disperses, an inherent problem with stiffer hook link materials.
Guru SMWG Method Rigs - Ready-tied versions of this popular go-to bagging-up hook pattern. A positive wide-gape round bend and beaked point make them an ideal choice for all-round commercial use. These shorter versions being perfect for use with method feeders, have been created using the brand's high-tech N-gauge line, and feature a simple bait loop attachment. Great for fishing a variety of soft and predrilled hard-baits.
Rather than choose a winner, we have listed some key considerations for method feeder fishing that will help you put more fish on the bank!

Fishing for me has long been more than a hobby, but more of an obsession. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by water, and all that which lives below the surface, and subsequently, as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing rod, my angling journey started.
