The TR is Shimano’s least expensive multiplier making it an ideal choice for novice anglers, or anglers who want a no-nonsense backup. Using a simple star drag, this tough, no frills reel is ideal for most saltwater boat applications and has a fantastic reputation with professional skippers.
The TR is a true workhorse multiplier that can do it all. It doesn’t have the same fancy design or sleek, ergonomic look that you get with the more expensive Shimano models, but the TR is totally reliable when it comes to handling big fish and standing up to the pressures associated with saltwater fishing. Load it with either mono or braid and you are ready to fish in just about any way you want. Static bottom fishing, drifting, jigging, trolling, you can even use it to cast outsized lures.
The TR has a tough reinforced graphite frame and an aluminium spool. This results in a robust construction that will serve you well, even in the harshest of saltwater environments. One of the advantages of its simple design is the lack of weight. At just 374g, this is a great reel to balance lighter line set-ups and like the best Shimano multipliers, it has stainless steel gears supported by a Shimano’s A-RB anti corrosion bearing. There’s also an audible clicker system to indicate bites when trolling. Another benefit of this truly affordable reel is the level wind system which distributes the line evenly across the spool making it simple for inexperienced anglers to use.
