Explore Our Selection of Thermal Base Layers for Fishing

Nothing beats a great day of weather out on the water with your rod. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always align with plans. When fishing carp in cold weather, you need thermal gear to keep you insulated and warm while you wait for a bite.

Here at Total Fishing Tackle, we offer dozens of thermals for you to choose from to stay cosy and protected despite harsh elements. Stay protected from head to toe with scarves, gaiters, jackets, trousers, and even full three-piece winter suits for the harshest of conditions. You’ll find brands you know and love, like Trakker, Navitas, and Fortis.

We only supply thermals from brands that have built a strong reputation for fishing products and showcase integrity in the quality of their products. Shop now and stay warm.

Fishing Thermals FAQs

What thermals do I need for fishing?

The main consideration should be warmth and a comfortable loose fit. A good warm base layer is always a good starting point, but a pair of salopettes, and a coat go a long way to keeping you warm. A warm hat and socks are also valuable as most heat is lost through your head and feet.

Are any of the thermals designed to be layered in case of changing temperatures?

Some coats come with removable inners, but the most common system is a hoody, salopettes and a coat which can be layered together.

Should I have different thermals for daytime and nighttime fishing?

No, but a good warm base layer is good, and a quality sleeping bag. It's important to not wear thick heavy thermal clothing when going to bed, otherwise, when you get up you don't have layers to put on so you will feel cold. So strip down to say a base layer, joggers, jumper hoody, and then sit your salopettes, sherpa fleece etc to one side so that you have it to put on when you get so, you get the most out of it.

Will the thermals dry quickly if exposed to water?

This will depend on the garment. Some are waterproof on the outer layer, but if they get wet inside, or they are not waterproof they will take time to dry.

Are the thermals lightweight to allow plenty of movement?

Again this is dependent on the garment. A base layer will be a closer fit, but generally, other thermals will vary in weight depending on the thickness of the material and should be a loose fit. A tight fit reduces the amount of air the garment can trap and reduces its thermal quality.

Do any of the thermals have zippers or mesh for ventilation?

This will depend on the individual garment.
