Fishing Chairs FAQs

What are the different types of fishing chairs?

There are a multitude of chairs around, so I will keep this brief, but as descriptive as possible. The most common will be the classic fold out chair, where you simply unfold the legs, and then open the chair up and it will lock into a fixed upright position, and these tend to be available in a standard size, compact model or low chair option, making them lighter and better for anglers on the move or travel light.

Moving on from this you will then have a recliner chair, where either via a ratchet or a gear/cog system you can adjust the backrest into a position of your own choice, meaning you can sit more upright, or as the name suggests, recline further back. Depending on the brand and model, may or may not have adjustable legs.

We then have moon chairs, which depending on the brand will either fold in half or concertina up, and are large bucket-like chairs. These are supremely comfortable, as they encapsulate you, as the chair comes round the sides like a pod. These are great for those doing long sessions or who might want to chill out in the garden on a nice day.

We then also see what we call bed 'chairs' or bed buddies, which are not to be mistaken for the larger bedchairs which anglers would use to sleep on when out night fishing. The bed buddies are designed to brace across your bed whilst you are fishing, so you have back support rather than sitting leaning forward on the edge of your bed for long periods.

Lastly, we have feeder chairs, which are very popular amongst match anglers and those who might not be looking at the larger commercial seat boxes. These are designed to take some of the feeder arm and rod rest attachments to the chair, in a similar way to how a seat box would do, meaning you have your accessories or bait boxes closer to hand.

How much do fishing chairs cost?

This varies hugely depending on the type and quality of chair you are looking at. A compact chair might start from around £30-40 whereas a high end recliner might be closer to £230 - £260.

What's the best fishing chair brand?

This is a very difficult one to answer, as there are a lot of very good chair manufacturers around, however, Solar, Nash, Fox and Trakker have probably been around the longest, and make a wider array of chairs, giving the user more choice, and they are all made to a very high standard.

How do I look after my fishing chair?

Taking care of your chair is very easy, as there is a lack of working parts. Simply keeping your chair clean, is the best thing to do, e.g. wiping excess mud away from the adjustable feet, making sure it can dry if it gets wet, and cleaning off any bait or food that may get on it, so it doesn't attract rodents or just to turn mouldy.

Are fishing chairs comfortable?

Comfort is a personal thing, and depending on the chair you choose, the comfort may vary. A small compact chair may not offer as much padding or support as a larger recliner or moon chair for example, so these are things to consider. However the bigger chairs will ultimately weigh more, so this is the balance.

Can I pole fish from my chair?

With most commercial chairs, it would be difficult, however from a feed chair, this is far more easily achieved.
