Best baits for Match Fishing: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

Best baits for Match Fishing: A Total Fishing Tackle Review

With the partial lifting of lockdown restrictions, anglers were once again allowed to fish overnight. Another piece of good news was that match fishing was once again allowed to recommence, sales of match fishing gear and bait are predictably on the rise so we asked our resident angling expert and part time match angler, Wayne Box, to take a look at some of the more popular options when it comes to the best bait for match fishing.

I am by no means an expert match angler, but I do alright, plus I like to keep myself up to speed on what baits are released from the likes of Sonubaits, Mainline Match and Dynamite Baits, to name but a few. Here are my top three picks when it comes to the best bait for match fishing……

Sonubaits Stiki Method Pellets

If you use the Method Feeder you need to be sure your pellets stay on the feeder through the cast, impact with the water and drop to the bottom before the break away from the feeder revealing the hookbait.

Fin Perfect Stiki Method Pellets have been treated with a special binding agent that when it comes into contact with water activates and causes the pellets to stick to each other and the Method Feeder. Because of the small amount of water required to activate them it means the pellets stay quite hard so they can be compacted onto a Method Feeder easily and you can be sure that they will stay on through the cast but as soon as they hit the bottom they will start breaking away from the feeder.

Simply pour a bag of Stiki Method Pellets into a bowl, add 150ml (1/4 pint) of water and stir until all the water is absorbed evenly and then the pellet is ready to be used with a Method Feeder.

Fin Perfect Feed Pellets contain highly digestible, premium grade fishmeal along with a low amount of fish oil, making them the perfect pellet for any commercial venue and all coarse fish especially carp and skimmers. A popular choice for the opening product of our best baits for match fishing. Click the image below to find out more!

Mainline Match Dumbell Wafters

The perfect hookbait for the method feeder! Crafted with a barrel-like shape, this 8mm hookbait comes in a 50ml tub and features some of their famous high-leakage attractors to entice in fish. This hookbait has balanced buoyancy levels which means they are easily sucked-up by fish, wafting into the mouths of the specimens that suck up feed well away from your feeder.

The easy-to-use design provides the angler with an advanced hookbait presentation combined with high-leakage attraction which makes them perfect for use with a Hair-Rigged bait band, giving you a hookbait that is critically balanced with a size Guru 12 QM1 hook. The semi-buoyant nature of these hook baits lightens the weight of a hook and ensures the hook itself is presented in a manner to give you the best chance of a bite!
