An introduction to Dropshot fishing by Luc Coppens.
Dropshotting - the latest type of predator fishing in Europe.

Although Dropshot fishing is already used as a technique for Blackbass fishing in the USA it has now found it's way to European anglers who have found this technique extremely effective for predator fishing for species such as Perch and Zander.

Especially in Germany and Holland, it is the new style of Predator fishing of the moment. To gain experience using all predator tactics with lures I did a lot of practice with this new style over the last year with magnificent catches.

2 new model rods are the result from a lot of field-testing, even during the prestigious Zander competitions in Holland over the last year. To compare with other company’s who simple put the words dropshot on a spinning rod blank, our rods are specifically designed for the job.

Very important with Dropshot fishing is a rod with a soft tip, something we understand very well, a soft tip allows the fish to take the lure easier. A second very important detail you need is a rod with body to set the hook in the predator’s mouth, and third the rod must be in balance with the reel. After all with a Dropshot rod you need to fish active that means you have to hold it in your hands all the time.

Fox have introduced 2 new Dropshot rods wich are 2.10 meter and 2.40 meter. The 2.10 meter version is often used from the boat where the 2.40 meter is perfect from the bank.

The weights I use generally with these rods vary between 5 and 20 gram.

A perfect braided line to use for this style of fishing is our Zander Pro braid. This pink colored line has a breaking strength from 4 lb -6 lb- 8 lb, this line is used by many predator anglers and has a very good reputation. On the end I use a piece illusion Fluo Carbon from 80 cm between 8 and 12 lb. The stiffness from Fluo Carbon is a benefit here to keep the hooks in the right position and a Palomar knot is required to hold the hook in good position.
